Home Décor is a very personal thing. Some people avoid wooden items in bathrooms, but others refuse not to have to wood. Vanities, one of the most common wooden pieces found in the bathroom and other wooden pieces can be found in most people’s bathrooms.  If you are person that does not have a vanity, you probably do not have many wooden pieces for the bathroom.  However, if you are going for the look wooden pieces can offer, you can those find pieces.  The wooden furniture can offer a very warm and cozy ambiance for the bathroom.  It is easy to find wooden bathroom furniture at your local Lowes or Home Dept.
You should consider the types of wood you will be purchasing. One thing that you must make sure of before purchase is to find out if the wood is treated. Untreated wooden is rather porous which can hold in the moisture of the room and it can also splinter.

Since it is a bathroom, water is going to be in usage a great amount of time it can cause a great problem with untreated wood.  This can cause toxic mold to possibly make you, your family and your family pets ill. The wood needs to be sealed, varnished and treated.  This will leave the color of the wood, the texture of the wood, but is not protected from the constant exposure to moisture.

You could easily do this job yourself if you are a DIY type of person. If not, you can hire someone else to do the work.  You, choose the color of varnish then use a water sealant on top of the varnish to seal in the color.  A similar process is used when varnishing and sealing an outdoor deck. But, please remember to make sure that you choose a sealant meant for indoor use. The outdoor formulas will contain too many fumes.

Even though it is not considered the greatest look, you can paint the wooden bathroom furniture to protect it. If done right it can be a wonderful look if you know what you are doing.  Make sure that you get a semi-gloss paint because it aids in repelling water and locking out moisture.  For extra protection you can paint a layer of the water sealant you would use when painting with varnish.

The only thing that can be bad in using paint on wooden bathroom furniture would be the peeling.  Over time even protected can crack, peel, or loosen. Just keep watch on the condition of the paint, as you might have to do some touch ups.  Using wooden bathroom furniture offers you both style and function with high priced pieces manufactured by carpentry specialists.
